3 Up 3 Down
UP
Shaun Hill- Hill wasn’t the starter for all of last year, just half of it. He went 5-3 in his 8 games. He threw for 2,046 yards and 13 touchdowns. If he played 16 games at the same level he would’ve thrown for 4,092 yards and 26 touchdowns. He would’ve also led the 49ers to win the NFC West and knock the Cardinals out of the playoffs. I’m not saying this is going to happen but it’s something to think about.
Donovan Mcnabb- Mcnabb had an interesting year last year. He was doing so-so and in week 12 against Baltimore, Andy Reid benched him at half time. But in the last five games of the season, Donovan threw 9 touchdowns to only 1 interception. His season stats at the end of the year were 345/571, 3,916 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers- Rodgers had a whole lot to live up to last year and from a fantasy perspective, he was phenomenal. We were all worried he wouldn’t be able to throw the deep pass like Brett Favre. But he topped 4,000 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. (He ended up with 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns.) This year he could be even more dangerous now that he has a year under his belt.
Down
Eli Manning- Last year Eli Manning led the Giants to be the best team in the NFC but they lost in the divisional round of the playoffs to the Eagles. In the regular season, Eli through for 3,238 yards and 21 touchdowns. Those are decent numbers if you ask me. But in the final 5 games of the season, we got a glimpse of what this year would look like, without Plaxico Burress. He only threw 3 touchdowns as well as 3 interceptions. To make matters worse the Giants also cut long time receiver Amani Toomer. And all of the wide-receivers on the Giants depth chart combined only have 156 career catches.
Matt Hasselback- The season for Matt Hasselback last year was a complete disaster. He was limited to seven games because of a bulging disk in his back. He had 5 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. The acquisition of T.J. Houshmanzadeh will help but it looks grim for Matt this year. You should not pick him to be your starter.
David Garrard- Garrard’s numbers in ’08 weren’t horrible but they weren’t good either. 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions along with 3,620 yards. You can blame most of his troubles on a weak offensive line and troubled receiving corps. But the Jaguars did acquire Tory Holt and Eugene Monroe. Monroe should sure up some of the problems on the O-line. Holt could have a decent year but Garrard is just too risky.
