Risky 3 (Wide Receivers)

Risky 3

Chad (Johnson) Ochocinco- Last year Chad’s numbers were just awful, 53 receptions for 540 yards and 4 touchdowns. But he’s not THAT bad. He just needs to stop talking and start catching more passes. He is still a very good receiver and will still have a decent season. I think this season will be somewhere in between regular Chad and 2008 Chad. Carson Palmer is back and “healthy” but we all know that Palmer isn’t ever healthy. It seems like he is always hurt which really hurts Chad’s fantasy value. This year I think he will get 69 receptions for 1,045 yards and 6 touchdowns. These numbers are not bad and you are welcome to take a risk on him, but he has such a bad attitude and that affects his play on the field.

Braylon Edwards- Edwards was WAY over drafted in 2008, and understandably so. He caught 16 touchdowns in 2007. But in 2008 he only managed 3. He finished the season with 55 receptions for 873 yards and 3 touchdowns. These numbers are not very good compared to his 80 reception, for 1,289 yards, 16.1 yards per catch average, and 16 touchdown performance in 2007. In ’08, Braylon led the league in drops with 16. To make matters worse, the Quarter Back situation in Cleveland is a big mess. We don’t know whether it’s going to be Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn. And if the answer is Brady Quinn, then I think that will hurt Braylon’s fantasy value because Quinn hardly has any experience and will make lots of mistakes. One more thing, Jamal Lewis (the Browns running back) is getting older and is heading down-hill fast. This means that opposing defenses can put more attention on Edwards.

Donald Driver- Driver had a very successful year last year even though he had many doubters. In fact, his numbers were very good, 74 receptions for 1,012 yards, a 13.7 yards per catch average, and 5 touchdowns. I would want those numbers on my fantasy team if I could get them in the second half of the draft. But Donald is 34 now and isn’t getting any faster. Aaron Rodgers will still find ways to get him the ball but I still think that Driver won’t be very effective for you and your fantasy team. He is ranked 91st on my Top 200 and shouldn’t be taken at any time before the 10th round. This year I think that Driver will get 57 receptions, 823 yards, and 4 touchdowns.
