High Risk-High Reward (Quarter Backs)

High Risk – High Reward

Matt Schuab- Schuab is a very interesting QB. He was traded to the Texans from the Falcons a couple years ago. He hasn’t been phenomenal but he hasn’t been a bust. He would be a lot better if he could stay healthy for once. I think this year could be his year. I think he could break-out and throw more than 25 touchdowns and 3,500 yards, especially since he is throwing to one of the best receivers in the game in Andre Johnson. Since he’s been on the Texans, he’s only played in 22 of their 32 games. He missed 5 games last year and still threw for 3,043 yards and 15 touchdowns. If you decide to draft him, make sure you pick a back-up that is capable of starting, just in case he gets hurt.

Jay Cutler- Jay was amazing in 2008, throwing for 4,526 yards, the third most in the game. He also tossed 25 touchdowns. He probably has the strongest arm in the league. But he was traded to the Bears a little bit before the draft. The trade really hurt his fantasy value. Instead of having star receiver Brandon Marshall, he has speedy receiver Devin Hester. Instead of having pass heavy coach Josh McDaneils, He has run heavy coach Lovie Smith. I believe that Cutler and Hester will work well together because of the long ball; I still think that Cutler is to short handed to have another 4,500 yard effort. He will have a good year but don’t get to high on him.

JaMarcus Russel- Russel, like Cutler, has an amazing arm. And we all know how much Al Davis likes to throw the deep ball. Plus the Raiders drafted WR Darius Heyward-Bey who has blazing speed. And the Raiders running game is much improved so opposing defenses can’t just focus on the pass. So Russel has a lot of things working for him. We might have seen what this year will be like in the final 3 games of the season when Russel 6 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. He has learned to take care of the ball better and it shows because he only threw 8 interceptions all year while throwing 13 touchdowns. That’s the good. There is also stuff to worry about. He could get injured. He could get off to a bad start and then be benched for the rest of the year. His receivers might not be able to hold on to the ball. Or maybe Head Coach Tom Cable wont trust him and run the ball most of the time. All of these factors are possibilities. There is no way to see what will happen, but he might reward your team with some great plays. I don’t think you should pick him as your starter but if you pick him as your back up, and your starter gets hurt or isn’t playing well, you can plug him in and he might help you win a couple games.
