3 Sleepers
Dwayne Bowe- Bowe isn’t exactly a sleeper, but he will have a great year this year now that Matt Cassel is throwing to him. Cassel isn’t very good at throwing the deep ball but then again, Dwayne Bowe isn’t exactly the guy who breaks off a big gain. But Bowe is tall and is one of the games’ best leapers. Dwayne Bowe’s average yard per catch is pretty low, 11.9. But this brings me to the new Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Todd Haley, who used to be the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. Now what would Bowe look like in the Arizona offense? A lot like Anquan Boldin. In fact, their stats from 2008 look similar. Bowe had 86 receptions, 1,022 yards receiving, 11.9 yards per catch average, and 7 touchdowns. Boldin had 89 receptions, 1,038 yards, 11.7 yards per catch average, and 11 touchdowns. Bowe should also get more red-zone targets because Tony Gonzalez is now in Atlanta.
Kevin Walter- Many of you probably haven’t even heard of Kevin Walter. That’s because he lives in the shadow of Andre Johnson. He doesn’t get covered that heavily because of Johnson lining up on the other side of the field. Walter thrives because he hardly gets attention. He is like a Wes Welker, catching short passes and making them into big gains. He doesn’t have that blazing speed but will rack the yardage. Matt Schuab, the Quarter Back for the Texans, will just dump off little short passes to him and let him do the rest. Walter is ranked 83 on my Top 200 and should go around the 9th round. He is a good second receiver for your fantasy team. I predict 947 yards, 67 receptions, and 7 touchdowns.
Joey Galloway- Ok, I know what you’re thinking. “How could Galloway possibly still have anything left in the tank?” And you might be right. But Galloway still has blazing speed and can burn you for that occasional deep bomb. Galloway also has a couple other things going for him. One of them is that one of the leagues best Quarter Backs (Tom Brady) is throwing to him. Galloway, like Randy Moss, likes the deep ball and Brady is one of the best at throwing it. Another reason is that he’s on the Patriots now and they are a very “pass happy” offense. He might not get that many targets but the ones he gets he will make the most of them. He has one more thing going for him; most of the defensive backs’ attention will be on Randy Moss and Wes Welker which means more man coverage for Galloway. That’s just another way he can showcase his speed.
